Why Travel from Xian to Tibet

The Xian-Lhasa train takes only 31~32 hours, much shorter than the train travel from Beijing and Shanghai.

How to Plan a Tibet tour from Xian

Generally, it takes about 7 ~ 11 days to travel from Xian to Tibet. Apart from arrival day, you are suggested to spend 2 full days touring the highlights in Xian. What you can't miss includes 1800-year-old Terracotta Warriors and Horses, well-preserved Xian Ancient City Wall, Shaanxi History Museum with treasured collections and Muslim Quarter with various street food. Some travelers travel to Beijing - the capital city & No.1 destination in China first and stay there for 3~4 days before taking a high speed train to Xian.

As for Tibet, you can start your trip from Holy City Lhasa and then extend to Shigatse and Everest if time allows. It needs at least 2 full days to visit the landmarks in Lhasa, including Potala Palace and some important monasteries. Then you spend another 4 days traveling to Mount Everest – the roof of the world via Gyantse and Shigatse.

There are 5 ~ 8 one-way flights operating between Xian and Lhasa every day, including 3 ~ 6 nonstop flights and 2 direct flights with stopovers in Xiahe or Xining. Usually, most Xian-Lhasa flights depart in the morning and most Lhasa-Xian flights depart in the afternoon. The nonstop flights take about 3.5 hours.

Xian Lhasa Train Information

There are 2 daily trains available to take you from Xian to Lhasa, including one train from Shanghai and another train from Guangzhou. It takes about 21~32 hours to get to Lhasa.
