Yak Hotel was built in 1986 in traditional Tibetan style and attracts travelers from all over the wolrd.The Yak Hotel is a famous hotel in the heart of the city of Lhasa in Tibet in China. It is only a five minute walk from Tibet's holiest temple, the Jokhang, Ramoche Monastery, and the Barkhor Street.

Popular with tour groups and individual travelers, this hotel is several notches up from some of the decrepit guesthouses that line Beijing East Road, but then so are the prices. Rooms are decorated with Tibetan furnishings and the bathrooms are clean and inviting. The Yak is considered a "hub" where tourists gather and share information. Next door is the ever-popular Dunya restaurant and Shigatse Travels is also on the property. The staff here is decent, willing to give much of help as much as they can.

Location and Transportation

Yak Hotel is in the downtown area, Old Town of Lhasa, the middle of Jokhang Temple and Ramoche Monastery. Located in the north side of Barkhor Street, tourist can get to Jokhang Temple just in several mintues walking. Also you can walk down the Middle Beijing Road to the 1.5km far Potala Palace, costing around 15minutes.

The Lhasa Gonggar International Airport is 60km to the north Yak Hotel. It takes about 1h by taxi from the airport to the hotel. The Lhasa Railway Station is much closer of 9km away from the hotel, which drives for about 20 minutes.
