Lhoka Travel Guide
Situated on the southern bank of the middle reaches of the Yarlung Zangbo River and 3,600 meters above sea level, Lhoka is known as the birthplace of the Tibetan people, which enjoys a comparatively mild climate. It connects with Lhasa in the north and Nyingchi in the east, and is joined to Shigatse in the west and borders to Bhutan and India along the Himalayas in the south.
Lhokha, or known as Shannan, is the most prosperous part in Tibet and owes great fame to its position in the history of Tibet. The well-known Tubo Regime (a historic period in Tibetan history) was derived from the agricultural civilization in Lhokha. Lhokha is also known as the source of the Tibetan civilization and has become the ruling center twice in Tibetan history.
Lhoka region is favored greatly by the nautre. Ranges, lakes, springs and river valleys constitute the featured landscapes. Yarlong Scenic Spot is the only national scenic spot in Tibet. You can find scenes of different types, snow mountains and glaciers, farming land and grazing land, holy mountain and sacred lakes, historic relics and simple folkways. All of these form a mysterious and wonderful picture. Yarlong is really a dazzling pearl in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
